More powerful, faster, digital – the Porsche 911 is now entering its eighth generation. Unmistakably committed to the Porsche design DNA, with a much more muscular look and an interior featuring a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor, the new 911 is timeless – and also modern. Intelligent control and chassis elements as well as innovative assistance systems combine the masterfully uncompromising dynamism that the classic rear-engine sports car is famed for, with the demands of the digital world. The exterior design is familiar and yet undoubtedly new. The eighth-generation 911 is wider, more assertive, and more advanced. The rear-wheel-drive models now match the bodywork width of the existing all-wheel models. The interior is distinctive, with clear, straight lines and recessed instruments defining the dashboard. 911 models from the 1970s provided the inspiration here as well, with the new dashboard spanning the entire width between two horizontal wing levels, just as it did in the original 911. Alongside the centrally positioned rev counter, two thin, frameless freeform displays deliver information to the driver. Now 10.9 inches in size, the centre screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) can be operated quickly and without causing distraction. Below it, a docked-on control panel of five buttons – styled to look like classic toggle switches – creates the transition to the centre console with touchpad.

Volkswagen and Porsche joined forces in the late 1960s to produce two different
versions of the VW-Porsche 914. The 914 was driven by a four-cylinder engine with
electronic fuel injection and 80 HP output developed by VW, while the 914/6 contained the 110 HP six-cylinder engine used in the Porsche 911 T. Porsche took care of the construction work. The 914 was the first step Porsche took to expand its product range, which had solely consisted of the 911 up to that point. At just 123 centimetres high, the two-seater had a distinctive mid-mounted engine construction style inspired by the motorsport scene; an approach Ferdinand Porsche had already used in the Auto Union racing car. The very first Porsche car had also featured a mid-mounted engine, as the favourable centre of gravity ensured optimum handling. But there were numerous other features that also made the 914/6 a true Porsche: Its reduced moment of inertia, flowoptimised aerodynamics and disc brakes all had their roots in the world of motorsport. In addition, the new model combined the properties of a sporty coupé and a convertible in a single car. The self-supporting, all-steel body with integrated safety bar was topped with a removable, sturdy plastic roof, which could be stowed in the rearmost of the two boot compartments.

Based on Ferry Porsche’s concept, the first car to bear the Porsche name took shape from July 1947 on the drawing boards of the construction office in Gmünd, Austria. On 8 June 1948, the sports car received its general operating permit. The handcrafted aluminium body and the steel tubular space frame came from Porsche, with the mechanicals taken and modified from the Volkswagen. Mounted between the driver and the rear axle sat a VW four-cylinder boxer engine which, partly thanks to redesigned cylinder heads, put out ten extra horsepower. By virtue of its mid-engine concept and good power-to-weight ratio, the open two-seater proved to be exceptionally nimble and feisty. Following company tradition, the design numbers were regarded as designation numbers – so began the story of the Porsche 356. While “No. 1” remained a one-off, its successor with a rear engine and steel body became the very first winning model in the history of Porsche.

Porsche is expanding the product portfolio of its first all-electric sports car range with the addition of the versatile Taycan Cross Turismo version, thereby continuing the systematic pursuit of its path towards sustainable mobility. Like the Taycan sports saloon, the Taycan Cross Turismo benefits from an innovative electric drive with 800-volt architecture. The new high-tech chassis with allwheel drive and adaptive air suspension also ensures uncompromising dynamics off-road. With 47 millimetres more headroom for rear-seat passengers and up to 1,212 litres of load capacity, loaded via a large tailgate at the rear, the Cross Turismo is a true all-rounder. The high-tech chassis with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension comes as standard on all four models. The optional Off-Road Design package increases ground clearance by up to 30 mm. This means that the Cross Turismo can also be driven on mixed surfaces and uneven tracks. The standard Gravel Mode improves suitability for driving on rough roads. The Performance Battery Plus with a total capacity of 93.4 kWh is always fitted as standard.
Around the world with the Taycan for more sustainability and social commitment: In keeping with its own commitment to sustainability, Porsche’s “Join the Porsche Ride” initiative initiates and supports projects that have a positive impact on social interaction and quality of life.

The 919 Hybrid dominated the World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2015 to 2017. After that, the 2017 WEC-model and a further developed 919 Hybrid Evo went on a Tribute Tour to public events as well as record attempts. With a system output of 1160 PS, reduced weight and modified aerodynamics the Evo proofed what the Porsche 919 Hybrid could achieve without strict WEC regulations. In April, the 919 Hybrid Evo with Neel Jani at the wheel set a new lap record at Spa-Francorchamps, being faster than the Formula 1. With a lap on the Nürburgring the car made its first public appearance at the 24 Hours Nürburgring in May. It was accompanied by the successful Porsche 956 from the 1980s. On 29 June 2018 and with Timo Bernhard at the wheel, the 919 Evo lapped the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds – new absolute best time. This results in an average speed of 233.8 km/h on what was re-vered by race drivers, engineers and enthusiasts alike as the world’s most difficult track. With that, Bernhard beat the lap record of Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 which had remained uncontested for more than 35 years. The last drive led the super sports car inside the Museum. It made the trip from the motor sports department in Flacht to Zuffenhausen on its own wheels.

Every Porsche is a race car – following this motto, Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen conceived the 550 Spyder in 1953. Featuring a light aluminium body on a flat-welded steel tubular frame, the Spyder tipped the scales at about 550 kilograms. The rear section was hinged, allowing quick access to the rear axle, gearbox and mid-ship powerplant – the legendary Carrera engine. With four overhead camshafts, shaft drive, dual ignition, crankshaft with four bearings, as well as eight-litre dry sump lubrication, the motor produced 110 HP. Power was transferred to the rear swing axles with torsion bars via a four-speed gearbox and limited slip differential. The front wheels also featured independent suspension and torsion bar springs. The factory and customers raced the 550 Spyder with great success. The Porsche Museum uses this show car as representative of the works car which is also part of the collection.

The specified fuel consumption and emission data are determined in accordance with the measurement procedures prescribed by law. 1 January 2022, the WLTP test cycle completely replaced the NEDC test cycle and therefore no NEDC values are available for new type approved vehicles after that date. This information does not refer to a single vehicle and is not part of the offer but is only intended for comparison between different types of vehicles. Additional equipment and accessories (additional components, tyre formats, etc.) can alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, affecting the vehicle’s fuel consumption, power consumption, CO₂ emissions and driving performance values in addition to weather and traffic conditions and individual driving behavior. Due to more realistic testing conditions, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions measured according to WLTP will in many cases be higher than the values measured according to NEDC. As a result, the taxation of vehicles may change accordingly as of 1 September 2018. For further information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC, please visit www.volkswagen.de/wltp. Further information on official fuel consumption data and official specific CO₂ emissions for new passenger cars can be found in the “Guide to fuel economy, CO₂ emissions and power consumption for new passenger car models”, which is available free of charge from all sales dealerships and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, D-73760 Ostfildern, Germany and at www.dat.de/co2.
