The DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum welcomed more than 150 invited guests to an exclusive preview evening on 16 April, where all attention focused on the topic of icons. Two iconic guests were also welcomed by Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen AG, and moderator Inga Griese, editor of the magazine ICON, to launch the event: the figure skating legend and entrepreneur Katarina Witt and the world-famous illustrator, artist and author Christoph Niemann. Surrounded by the new exhibition “ICONIC – A Timeless Journey of Culture, Society and Mobility”, the panel members exchanged views on their guiding principles and idols as well as on the influence of icons on our lives. Exhibition „ICONIC – A Timeless Journey of Culture, Society and Mobility” tauschten sich die Panelteilnehmenden über ihre Leitbilder und Idole sowie über den Einfluss von Ikonen auf unser Leben aus.

After the panel discussion ended, all guests had the opportunity to explore the unique exhibition and look at the Group brands’ legendary vehicles, such as the legendary VW Bus or the VW Beetle, as well as around 70 other exhibits, some of them original, from the fields of art, design, architecture, fashion and music, plus special moments from the past. The unusual design of the exhibition space tours visitors through the individual decades from the 1950s all the way into the future. Works by pop artist Andy Warhol and famous design objects, such as the Egg chair by architect and designer Arne Jacobsen, provide unique insights into culture and society.

The “Icon’s World” multimedia room in particular provided an interactive experience for the guests at the event. Following the visual trip through time, the immersive landscape opened up a look into the future. The multimedia projections bring to life visions of mobility, architecture worlds and technologies that will shape the icons of tomorrow. They stimulate with touch-sensitive buttons and invite visitors to communicate with “IDA”, an empathetic assistant based on artificial intelligence. Iconic DJ and music producer Mousse T. and British singer Emma Lanford provided the musical backdrop for the exhibition night.

“Our brands and their iconic products are what make the Volkswagen Group unique. We have been shaping the zeitgeist for decades with our iconic cars – the VW Golf, Audi Quattro, Porsche 911, to name but a few. We are known for developing inspiring products that thrill our customers around the globe. Iconic design and innovative technologies play a large part in this, as our ICONIC exhibition at the Drive in Berlin impressively shows,”

Oliver Blume said Oliver Blume, Chief Executive Officer of the Volkswagen Group.
