It all started with knitted pulse warmers at a flea market in Berlin. Leyla Piedayesh emigrated with her family from Iran to Germany in 1979 after the Islamic Revolution. She gained a foothold in her new home and founded Iala Berlin in 2004 with a collection of knitted pieces.

Since then, she has become a firm fixture in the international fashion business and is one of Berlin’s most successful designers. The label continues to reflect the zeitgeist and enshrines a special Berlin chic, and is sold today in over 250 shops worldwide. Piedayesh is also actively involved in campaigns, such as “I’m an Immigrant” and campaigns for a free, connected world and against discrimination based on origin or religion.
