On August 30, the time has come once again: the world’s athletics elite will gather in Berlin to showcase their talents across 17 disciplines. At the Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF), athletes will run, jump, throw and push their limits in pursuit of excellence. Will this year’s event once again see the remarkable records and memorable performances for which ISTAF has become renowned?
Nearly 200 athletes from more than 40 countries are poised and ready to compete, including in para athletics events. Together with over 40,000 spectators, they will transform Berlin’s Olympic Stadium into a vibrant arena of sporting excellence. Organisers, partners, officials, and around 500 dedicated volunteers help ensure that the world’s oldest athletics meeting, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, once again delivers an unforgettable experience and a world-class spectacle for everyone involved.
Over the history of ISTAF, many German champions, world champions and Olympic medallists have competed at the event. This year, several of Germany’s top track and field athletes have already confirmed their participation, including Gina Lückenkemper, Malaika Mihambo, Gesa Krause, Yemisi Mabry and Julian Weber, promising world-class performances and unforgettable moments.
In addition, the 4x100m mixed relay team featuring Gina Lückenkemper, Owen Ansah and other top athletes will be aiming for a season-best performance at ISTAF. The format itself, originally developed as an ISTAF innovation, is gaining momentum internationally and will become an Olympic discipline at the 2028 Olympic Games.
